The games I've played the most in these past few years are Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, The Sims 2 and of course, Guild Wars.

I spend a good amount of time on the forums discussing strategy, tips and sometimes just plain wasting time at the off topic section.

One thing I really noticed was the different "Culture" each game forum had.

Like for example, after playing Battlefield 2/2142 for a while, I started playing The Sims 2 and when I got to the forums I realised people there were... Different.

They were a lot more civil, gentle and there were hardly any flame wars. The moderators didn't seem to do anything about repeated similar posts and there are very few closed topics.

In the Battlefield Forums it was flame wars galore, Noob was a word found in almost EVERY post and people were generally alot more rude.

Now in the Guildwars Guru forums people seem to be... Well, mostly normal. Maybe its because Guild Wars is a RPG? And because of the RP aspect of it, people with so many different personalitys can enjoy playing the same game?

So what do you guys think? Have you noticed the different forum cultures for other games? Do the games influence the sort of people who end up on the forums?

ummmm.... yeah
i also think if i was running really fast and i stubbed my pinky toe into a leg on a coffee table it would hurt. dont you think it would?

I think the fact that we ban the people who can't keep the conversations civil might have something to do with it as well!

Yea, its mainly up to who plays the game/visits the forum and how the forums are moderated.

FPS players tend to be a lot more agressive because it is nearly 100% fast paced PvP (after HL2DM I find GW to be really relaxing.. even in the elite and so called hard areas... dont PvP much, so I dont have a comparison yet).

Sims... well its a scene for itself. my wife plays it, but I never found it to be remotely interresting for me. From what I saw its a peacefull game built mainly around user creativity. I cant really see much grounds for flames on the runs of "OMG u noob dnt HS me all teh teim!!!!11ONE lrn 2 ply teh game withotu noobweaponz!!!!1ONEFLAME"

GW, well, its between both fronts... you have slower action but more creativity (builds) than FPS and faster more agressive gameplay but less creativity than with the Sims.
